restart the daemon with the -l option, this
should log messages to /var/log/messages or
whereever you're pointing the print logs to
from /etc/syslog.conf
I'm not consciously pointing the print logs anywhere, I'm assuming
that RH 5.2's default installation has started syslog correctly. The
message about could not print job does appear in /var/log/messages.
rather strange problem you got there.
Yep, especially as it's a virgin install on RH 5.2 and everything else
seems to be running fine, and the remote submission has been working
from the Sun client (onto another machine) for years. My guess is
there is a bug in the lpd as shipped.
