According to Ciaran Costelloe:

This is a feature of the default archiving provided with Mailman, whereby it
believes the Date: header on the mail to be definitive. While there are good
things about this (such as that it takes into account that you may be posting
in a different timezone to the ilug list server) there are also bad things,
such as people who've set their machine to bizarre times for whatever reason.
