I'm using 5.2 as well for my print server for four printers.
Yep, I'm sure it's possible to make it work, but with no doc, no
error messages that can be used, and no means of testing, it's not
easy.
I've had no problems. Am using lpr-0.13-1, can't recall if i
upgraded the lpr package, I may have. There is an update for lpr
from redhat: lpr-0.35-0.5.2.i386.rpm. You can get it
from
ftp://ftp.esat.net/mirrors/updates.redhat.com/5.2/i386/lpr-0.35-0.5.2.i386.rpm
[root at domain castor /tmp]# rpm -hiv lpr-0.35-0.5.2.i386.rpm
/usr/bin/lpq conflicts with file from lpr-0.33-1
/usr/bin/lpr conflicts with file from lpr-0.33-1
/usr/bin/lprm conflicts with file from lpr-0.33-1
/usr/man/man1/lpr.1 conflicts with file from lpr-0.33-1
/usr/sbin/lpc conflicts with file from lpr-0.33-1
/usr/sbin/lpd conflicts with file from lpr-0.33-1

Not impressive.
