I'm sure this isn't your problem, but I once had a motherboard and a 128MB
dimm where if the dimm was in the `last' dimm slot, the bios (and hence
linux) only saw 64MB, but if the dimm were put in the `first' dimm slot,
the bios saw all 128MB.
