Ah Ha so PPPoE on the Linux box is necessary.

Righteo, I believe I installed rp_pppoe from the Slackware extra cd.
Can someone recommend one of the PPPoE setups before I go and get stuck in?

If it's an Alcatel SpeedTouch Home, there should be no configuration
(well, I'm assuming it's got a default eircom friendly config in
nvram if you bought it from eircom). The reason there should be no
config is because it's just an ethernet->atm/dsl bridge.

You need to run PPPoE on your Linux box. Then install natd/ipfw etc.
That's where all the configuration takes place.
