AFAIK the uid/gid will be same on lin box a and lin box b if the
accounts have been mapped from the same pdc. The pam_smb is a cool
module but for what your doing all that you will use is winbind
(pam_smb is more like a simpler version of winbind). All that NFS
stuff should be transparent though.

Oh yeah and wins names resolution is working again with pre-release 5
RedHat 7.3 RPM and SRPM can be found at
ftp://ftp.samba.org/pub/jerry/RPMS/redhat-7.3/
Just one thing though the smbmount is broken on this so it might be best to
just extract the necessary file libnss_wins.so and place it in the
appropriate
place in your directory tree (/lib/libnss_wins.so) then in
/etc/nsswitch.conf do ..
cut=
#hosts: db files nisplus nis dns
hosts: wins files dns
=cut
Sweet as ! now you can connect to windows/samba machine without ip
address/nmbloookup bullshi* !
(for those of us who dont have privilege of controlling the dns)

Thanks guys :o)
pam_smb and winbind do the first part nicely ... now all I need is a way to
map the UID / GID that samba (whichever module) creates ... essentially I've
got a half-dozen linux boxen that authenticate from an NT domain ... I'd
like to get some form of UID/GID consistancy for NFS shares etc ... so I can
read files I've created on a common share from another box !
