Another option is contact your Irish ISP and ask if they have a global
roaming option (Eircom Net and VIA are both part of the GRIC alliance - and
I think someone (Esat?) offers access to iPass as well).
This will incur extra charges over your phone calls, but it does offer you
local call rate access in over 100 countries around the world,
