Right now I have configured a Slackware Box as a DSL Gateway and firewall,
that we may run Oracle and DB2 [not bad for a p120 80mb of ram]. The dilema
I have is that Slackware is joint favorite distro for me with Gentoo-Linux,
but as far as I know no one else onsite here would have the experience or
patience to setup this machine from scratch.
I also have Mandrake 8.1 x3cds and Mandrake 8.2 x2cds, arguably running
Mandrake would be easier for non *nix-disto-mafia type people to setup to do
the same job, so should I spend the necessary time to nuke Slackware and
install Mandrake or similar such that when I leave the office, the box will
stand more chance of continuing on without my extollation of Linux? Ie if
the admin who comes after me has less patience for Linux then a distro like
Slackware may be too difficult to troubleshoot and admin and perhaps
something with gui bells and whistles like Mandrake would be easier for a
windows buff to admin, thus making Linux's chances of continuity in my
abscence all the greater?
