There used to be a thing about a $500 storage and archival fee chargable to
spammers, wonder if that's still the case ??
AFAIK though jurisdictions in cyberspace are very hard to prove / enforce,
although we could (suggestion coming) post a warning on the web page that we
would bill any spammers posting to this list (debian-user) do that, or
demand to see a cashed $5000 cheque made payable to the FSF .... suggestions
?
Such a statement could be worded something to the effect:
"While these lists are open for postings from the general public,
unsolicited commercial emails (UCE) will not be tolerated and will be
charged an archival and storage fee.
The fee will be waived if a cashed cheque totalling not less than $5000 made
payable to the Free Software Foundation and no less than three weeks old can
be produced.
The posters of the UCE will be liable for any costs involved in recovering
said fee.
As this list is neither targetted at US users nor based in the US, we shall
not be governed by US legislation on this matter."
That said it's only inconvenient to have to make another keystroke to delete
the mail, how many extra keystrokes have we wasted now ???
I'll shut up now :o)
