In this instance building from source would have to be the logical
preference... as forcing the rpm would 'probably' be a bad idea.

The problem ain't the presence or lack thereof of the libraries, it's
that RPM doesn't know about them because you installed from source. You
can tell rpm to forcibly install with no regard for dependancies, or you
can install an openssl RPM. Or you can build mahogany from source.
