Thanks, that is exactly the information I was looking for.
Still, software raid seems fast enough on the E3000. It has 2x200MHz
processors, so it is not the fastest box on the block (a kernel compile
takes at least an hour). Creating a 36Gb mirror and formatting with
'mke2fs -j' takes roughly 78 seconds. This is faster than some other
machines I have seen.
Mind you, formatting a RAID device and copying large files onto it are two
completely different operations.
