I have just set up mailman on a box here. The installation appeared to
go fine - I can setup new lists and administer them through the web
interface - however the mailing part does not work. When I try to
subscribe to any of the lists using any of a number of email accounts -
the confirmation email never arrives - and the following mail gets sent
to root at domain mailman-host
To: root at domain <mailman-host>
Subject: sendmail-localhost unknown
sh: safe_finger: command not found
safe_finger is installed
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 6248 Sep 20 2001
/usr/sbin/safe_finger
Symlinking this to somewhere executable by the mailman user does not fix
the problem - however the mail sent to root then becomes
Subject: sendmail-localhost unknown
[localhost/127.0.0.1]

Sendmail is configured correctly on this machine in that I can send mail
externally from it - and I can receive mail sent to it no problems. The
only syslog entry that is produced is

(127.0.0.1)
Thanks for listening
Fergal..
