A couple of disgruntled employees at a big, sort of blue-ish,
company have had the same idea. Being brilliant, we could
maybe pull it off (this would be in Dublin, which I still
consider a sort of cybercafe-starved city ;)

Give 'em a start button. Pushing it gives them a multimedia
(ptooey!) introduction to using the system in question.
Having a zillion windowmanagers and nearly as many takes on
explorers help immensely. And lots of us on the list are
programmers. Brilliant programmers. And modest. At least I am.
And likable, too.

Not a problem - on my own system, I click an icon, and the
contents of the disk automagically pops up. I must find out
how to make it unmount when closing, though...

I wouldn't let them run just about anything. Anyway, make
certain that there's some information leaflet that explains
every detail of what's allowed or not in the cafe.

Civ:CTP (Mine's in the mail! Yay!), Myth II, several
iterations of Quake, Kingpin, and Neverwinter Nights is a
good start. Anything based on the Unreal engine should run,
in theory. And things are improving.

We could get around CV-stuff with WordPerfect. The licensing
doesn't cost too much, and I think you get bulk licenses
(at least the company used to do that when I was in school.

Let's see how many substitute programs we can dig up/create
to make it just like any other cybercafe. I wouldn't mind
using a mixed OS cafe, except for the fact that Mr.Gates gets
money off it...
Should we set up a 'ideas that we ery much would like to see,
but could never work while people are still computer-
