You don't say what OS, if any, is on the PC or whether you have a full or
upgrade CD but why not just create an emergency boot disk from another 98se
machine and boot from that then run setup.exe from the CD?

I've got a Windows98SE CD and I need to install it on an old PC I've got for
a friend. Unfortunately, the PC can not boot from the CD.
