cause it's dual so irq vectors programmed via APIC instead of backwards
compat traditional PC PIC interface.

have a look at linux on alpha/ppc/etc and you'll see things on irq 40+. Eg
OpenPIC supports at least 1024 interrupt vectors iirc.
