ok, the modem is picked up and is dialing,

all appears to be well with the world until it gets to this point

send (^M)
expect (ogin:)
64000/HDLC

then rolling garbage for 4 or 5 lines followed by

-- failed
failed (NO CARRIER^M)

anyone have any ideas???
