you are right on the money, i sorted it out last night,
it was on standard and i needed pap/chap.

however that did'nt end my problems , now it gets this far

Serial connection established
using interface ppp0
connect : ppp0<-->/dev/ttyS0
HANGUP (SIGHUP)
Modem, hangup
Connection terminated
Exit.

any ideas?
