I been to a couple of Birds-of-a-feather sessions at conferences
like SuperComputing and MPI conferences. Usual format is that
a couple of speakers sit at top of the room and give an overview
of the current state of the art / standard and then it is opened up
to the floor. One speaker usually acts as chairperson, but this
role is mainly for traffic control, to insure everyone who wants
to make a point, can.
