[ILUG] Eircom ADSL and CPE

I've just had the nice Scottish lassies from the ODTR's office back on to
me. As of last Friday (and no, I don't know what changed last Friday) you DO
NOT have to buy your ADSL CPE (customer premises equipment - modem, router
or whatever) from Eircom. Eircom was very apologetic that I had been told
this today by one of their staff and it was all just a misunderstanding.

So if you're ordering ADSL you don't have to buy a modem or router from
Eircom (but they still advise it for compatibility yada yada yada). If you
get a sales droid who says that you do, point out to him that the ODTR has
confirmed that you do NOT have to buy any equipment from them.

Now if only said ODTR can work on getting Eircom's ADSL prices within a
donkey's roar of those prevailing elsewhere we'll be sucking diesel.
