wow. helpful stuff there. i'm sure less 133t debian users will come up
with better answers, but if you pursue the suse/redhat route you might
consider paid support.

for instance redhat has their update network thingy. it's limited to
upgrading inside a single release i think. you're looking more long
term - but i'm not sure any distro will handle that without requiring a
test cycle to make sure an upgrade doesn't break your systems the way
you use them. we had an issue between rh6.x to rh7.x where the perl
syslog.pm module was broken which caused frustration for instance.
a vast majority of people don't use that module, but we do so it was an
issue for us.
