Not really an option - what about binary files ?

I like dump but it doesn't support ReiserFS or JFS filesystems so . . .
And dump is designed for backup to tape. It will of course backup to files,
but all this started because I think that there must be a better way of
backing up when disk is your medium - as Kate pointed out in IRC, I'm trying
to design a versioning filesystem.
