In fairness - they've limited alot of the crap that's after building up
around .com. people mightn't value a .com business as much as they value a
.ie business.

Still, 30,000 does seem a low figure (Am I right there?)

If the software worked reliably then there would be no problems. However
the new website has been problematic. I do not regard the use of a CMS
for a site that only changes on an aperiodic basis to be logical or
economical. I do not regard that CMS as being good. [1] There are
security issues involved with it since log-on and domain administration
takes place over an unsecure connection. Whereas previously, the zone
file for .ie was updated on a regular basis during the week days (circa
1730 Hrs), the updates are now sporadic. This new system seems to be
extraordinarily badly designed.

The fact that the website for the national cctld is now hosted in
another country is an insult to the Irish internet community. The only
beneficiaries of this are the company providing the hosting and the CNO
registrars who see more Irish CNO registrations each month because .ie
is not an economically viable domain any more. The .ie cctld is no
longer in safe hands. For the good of the Irish internet community, IEDR
should no longer administer the .ie cctld.

[1] At one time or another, every programmer gets the idea that he or
she can write a CMS. The reality is that almost every programmer can
write a bad CMS because only a few understand the logistics of
publishing.
