Hi,
I'm sorry to hear about the lack of linux facilities in WIT, but I'm not
particularly surprised about it. I presume you're doing computer science
or some related course there. If so, most of what you're learning will
have next to nothing to do with the platform you use to put it into
practise and lots to do with the underlying theory.
Try telling a couple of thousand arts/business/commerce/non technical
students that they should switch to linux for writing up their reports.
I think you'll find that most of them
-have no interest in doing so
-don't want the hassle of understanding more than point and click
-don't want to waste potential drinking time getting to grips with a new
computing environment.
In short, they'll say no and since computing services tend to want the
least amount of hassle from their "customers" possible, they're not going
to be switching anytime soon.
