Would someone be kind enough to tell me whether anything other than
administrator vigilance is helpful to combat these threats.

My stealth linux network is about to be connected to our corporate network.
The MIS people are digging their heels in on progressing samba and
configuration of intervening switches to allow SMB/WINS, until I install
either of Kapersky or Sophos linux anti-virus products on all boxes.

Fsckers. It feels like I'm talking to Venusians, I lay out all the points
and the broken record of 'install anti-virus software' just plays on.

Could you please allay or confirm my fears, which are, that these products
are basically unhelpful?

Dermot.
