I've the same general feelings & experience here except that I usually
don't bother with pages using Java (too slow & I'm too impatient). The
only time that netscape regularly bombs out on me is when I'm looking
at squid logs after having thrown accesswatch at them, these files are
usually in the order of 40 - 80 MB so I'm not too worried especilally
seening that a quick xkill fixes it. When using IE 4 (not bothered
upgrading to 5) under NT on a 400Mhz machine with 256Mb to look at the
same stuff It pulls the whole system down, even if it doesn't go bsod on
you you still have to stop & restart pratically every service with
reboot or reset being the easy way out.
The only regular gripes I have with netscape are that it can be fairly
slow to display pages (IE is definately better there) & that Netscape
messanger seems to screw up it's summary files when a mail folder has
more than 500 messages in it(windows & mac only, though its easy to fix)
but this is still _far_ more reliable than any variant or version of
outlook that I've ever seen.
parting question
Has anyone ever managed to "successfully" uninstall IE4 on a win95
machine. ie without having to reformat or perform some equally time
consuming operation like re-install windoze to a different dir. Which is
why I don't let people use it here (everybody has a dell supplied IE
coaster)
total no of windoze boxen on my network is about 65 - 70
total with IE installed = 2
