OK, Here's the story with boot loading ....
a)
NT Will overwrite DOS / LILO / Win '9x Bootloaders, BUT - if it
recognises the os (ie FAT16 Partition & DOS / Win'9x - it won't SEE FAT32
!!) it'll add it to the boot menu
LILO remains screwed ...
b)
Win '9x has NO respect for anything - even NT
c)
LILO will boot anything AND allow all sorts of fiddling
... so here's the HOWTO:
With a 2 hdd setup ...
Primary - NT & '98
Secondary - Linux ++
Create an ext2 Partition on /dev/hda as 1'st Primary for NT - reason in a
moment ...
Create a second primary partition (for '98) - read the man page about DOS
6.x partitions (you need to zero xxx kb at the start of the partition)
Install '98 to it's partition (if you want, use FAT32 == good idea)
Install NT, during install process delete the ext2 partition and create an
NTFS one instead (just so '98 doesn't get confused later, don't use FAT)
Install Linux and allow LILO to boot all the systems...
NT's bootloader CAN'T boot anything from FAT32 (bitter experience) so it's
best to use LILO for all ....
NT won't see / share w/'98 nor will 98 see / share w/NT
Linux will see / use all (if the FS is in the kernel - careful with the NTFS
rw though - still very Alpha)
Hope this helps ...
