Well theres nothing like doing it for real is there?
Our school's system should be up and fully functioning in the next
couple of weeks and maybe I'll put something together for review by
ILUG; I would certainly appreciate comments and suggestions for
improvements.
The network has been built entirely from scrap - we have spent
about 300 quid so far on network cards, cable and mice, and an ISDN
modem. Another 200 quid on netwrok charges through NTL and Demon.
It comprises
3 linux (mail, web, print) servers on 486dx66 <16Mb
1 Bull DPX with >12 Wyse terminals
~10 386 4Mb DRDOS graphic clients (Arachne)
sundry 286 + 086 text only clients
The plan is to have email and web browsing clients with OA apps on
either DOS or through telnet on the Bull.
Its amazing the kit people are scrapping these days! We have 10
24-pin wide carriage Panasonic printers I don't know what to do with
and a 32 node BBC network with 2 file + 2 printer servers and A/D
Unilab interfaces for each BBC. Suggestions welcome.
A couple of questions though...
1. can linux talk to DRDOS PCNET?
2. how are Chase serial cards configured on linux?
3. can linux talk to the BBC network?
