Odd one this.
Was running 2.2.5-15 (RedHat's own) and upgraded to 2.2.12 - and
networking promptly stopped working. Why upgrade ? Out of memory
problems...I cam in this morning, and XScreensaver locked, even telnetting
in gave me a "can't fork..." error, something I'd not seen since 100 people
telnetted into a 128MB Sun MXP in DCU, at the same time to run Prolog
interpreters...
Anyway, I've no idea why DHCP is failing, bar the fact that Pump (a DHCP
client) now says "Operating failed" when I run it, even without any
options. It's the proggie that the redhat startup scripts use. Anyone know
anything about this ? (Yes, I have upgraded pump from RedHat's Updates
tree...and it's the most recent thingy from RPMfind too.
Does DCHP/pump require anything funny (like bootp etc) to be enabled in
the kernel ? Also, what's the recommended way of setting a hostname, when
your IP address is dynamic ? (I just have "127.0.0.1 localhost minbar" in
/etc/hosts)...
