Yes, I've had the same problem with different red hat distros, usually
stopping on hdlist and some other files. Unfortunately I've no solution
but would also love an explanation if anyone has one.

Same here, (but VAX and windows) although I did manage to download hdlist
once from home
over a ppp line (under windows afair).
