You could also try the following if umount and sync commands don't work -
This may need to have been compiled into the kernel...
Press AltGr-SysRq-S at the same time (syncs)
then AltGr-SysRq-U at the same time. (Unmounts)
You can press AltGr-SysRq-H for all the commands....
Then hit the reset button....
