Apologies to all if this gets posted a second time. Chalk it down to
teething problems.
Hi all,
I'm setting up a home network with a linux box (rh6) as server
controlling
ipmasq, ppp, dns etc. My problem is that in order to dial up I
currently
need to manually telnet into the server and issue the 'net' and 'disc'
commands/scripts which connect me to the net and disconnect me
respectively.
Naturally I'd prefer to automate this and would ultimately like to hide
the
details under connect/disconnect buttons on the client machines to make
things easy for the rest of the family.
I know that Expect is perfect for the job, except the client machines
will
be running Windows9x (Expect for windowsNT is available, but since named
pipe servers apparently don't work under 9x, neither will expect).
I may also use diald at a later stage, but at the moment it isn't an
option.
It would work but windows is far too keen to have a net connection.
Any alternative ideas?
On a separate, but related note, I've also set up the linux box as an
Imap
server, which is probably the handiest thing I've done in ages, cause
I'm
always switching between windows/Linux here. I presume if I want
something
similar for addresses, I'll need to set up an ldap server (anyone ever
done
this? Is it easy to set up). Anyone got ideas for sharing calenders?
Korganizer uses vcalender natively, anyone know of any windows clients
that
do too?
Hmm...
Maybe I'll start looking into a cddb server too...
btw, what happened those home entertainment threads, I was enjoying
those :)
