One of the things which a linux newbie finds intimidating (imho) is the vast
array of mail programs available, some of which may be pre-installed during
setup, some not. Between sendmail, procmail, fetchmail, qmail, smail (and
probably many others that end in mail) it can be a little overwhelming.
Maybe it would be worth putting up a little intro/overview on the
www.linux.ie newbie section, just explaining what exactly each program does
(and their relative merits, configuration + security pitfalls etc.) and how
they interact both with the local and the internet mail system as a whole.
Please feel free to shoot this down in flames if it's a crap idea, but I
think it would be of benefit to other users too. Maybe it could be used as
a topic for one of the linux talks with the notes put up on the site.
What do you think?
Any volunteers :) ?
