Yep I suppose that the diversity can be disconcerting at times and
what a lot of people want it for Linus ( or someone else of similiar
credibillity ) to say
"OK this is in , this isn't , this is how we are going to do this and you
can't vary so far from this that you'll break it"
Or something along those lines.
The similiarity between my proposed model and the swing one is no
accident. I have been programming swing for a while now and I am very
impressed with the write one , run anywhere approach that java for the most
part gives you. It can be very uplifting when you discover that the same
programs works well , but with a totally different look and feel , under
another platform with very few or no changes.
