I had a Dell Latitude dual-booting NT Wks and Linux. It worked quit well,
except for some power management issues in Linux. More specifically,
suspending the machine was kind of a problem and would hang the syste.
It's kind of a major problem if you think about it--trying to reconcile
the portability and mobility of a laptop with the stability and longevity
of Linux--but I left my job before I resolved the issue.

Also, there is a good resource for Linux laptop use information at:

http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/kharker/linux-laptop/

If I remember correctly, it is a database of email addresses of people who
have experience with different models. I can't remember if there is other
info there, but there very well may be.

good luck,
