Others have said a similar thought. The reason I was okay with going ahead w/
ISDN was because it's not clear to me just how close Cablelink is to offering
cable modem connections. That would be the ideal, I think. They said that it
would be around October that they'd be ready to start putting it in place, but
I'm concerned that the cable wiring into Sandycove (on the main drag, with a
normal cable connection) isn't the right "kind" to support it.
I called Cablelink today, but they said they didn't yet know of a real time
for this. The fellow I spoke to said the recent purchase of their company has
a lot of things undergoing change. He suggested I write a letter to the
customer services manager (Shamus Dawling), who is likely to have more
detailed information about even roughly when it might be available. (If it's
an issue of waiting a good six months, I'll go with the ISDN for the short
term, I think.) I tried calling their customer service department to talk to
him directly, but I sat in their queue until the system screwed up and hung up
on me after the music stopped and it gave me one ring. Hrm.
Any theories? :-)
