Well, the ALS contest is still on, and we've already got
submissions in, which
means I need to share some more information with
you--specifically, the rules.
Sorry about the delay in sending these out. A certain hefty
weather system
named Floyd was a slight deterrent, but skies are clear and
we're moving on.

Red Hat's ATLANTA LINUX SHOWCASE (ALS) Contest Rules
1. Prizes and Prize Rules:
Red Hat will select one grand prize winner from all complete
and correct
entries. The grand prize winner will receive:
A. Air transportation to Atlanta, Georgia, USA to attend the
Atlanta Linux
Showcase conference to be held October 12 to October 16, 1999;
B. Accommodations, all-access admission to conference
functions for each day
the winner is present at the Atlanta Linux Showcase; and
C. Four consecutive nights accommodations at Atlanta, Georgia,
beginning
October 13, 1999.
Total retail value of the grand prize is approximately
$3,400.00. If the
winner of the grand prize fails to claim the prize within two
(2) days of
receiving notice from Red Hat, an alternate winner or another
entrant may be
selected by Red Hat to receive that prize. Prizes will NOT be
awarded by
default. Red Hat reserves the right to withhold prizes in its sole
discretion. Red Hat reserves the right to substitute, at its
sole discretion,
cash or another prize of equal or greater value for any prize
described
herein. No substitution of prizes by the winner is permitted.
The name of
the winner may be obtained after October 4, 1999, by sending a
stamped,
self-addressed envelope to Atlanta Linux Showcase, Red Hat,
Inc., P.O. Box
13588, Research Triangle Park, NC 27709 USA.
2. Entry Requirements:
By entering the contest, you agree to these rules. The
contest is open to
individuals who are at least 18 years of age. Persons less
than 18 years of
age are not eligible to win. Contestants must send a
screenshot of their
custom-made desktop theme for GNOME or KDE to
lugmaster at domain redhat.com, and must
supply all the registration information requested. Only four
entries per user
group are permitted. The winner must release the winning desk-top
configuration to the Atlanta Linux Showcase. The contest ends
at 1:00 pm EDT
(US) on September 27, 1999. Employees of Red Hat, Inc. and
their family
members are not eligible to win. Individuals outside of the
United States
shall be responsible for obtaining all documentation and
meeting all other
requirements for entry into the United States.
3. Additional Rules:
Except where prohibited, by participating and accepting a
prize, winner
consents to the use of his or her name, photo and/or likeness
for advertising
and promotional purposes by Red Hat without additional
compensation. By
participating and winning a prize, winner releases Red Hat,
its affiliates,
subsidiaries, directors, officers, employees, sponsors, and
agents, including
advertising and promotion agencies, from any and all liability
with respect to
any prize. Red Hat reserves the right to cancel or modify the
Contest if
fraud, technical failure, or other factors destroy the
integrity of the
Contest, as determined by Red Hat in its sole discretion. Red
Hat reserves
the right to disqualify any winner, as determined by Red Hat
in its sole
discretion.
4. Deadline:
All entries must be received by Red Hat by 1:00 p.m. EDT (US)
on September
27, 1999.
5. Judging:
Winning entries will be selected based upon the quality of the
submission from
among all successful entries submitted. The selection of
winners shall be
final. Winners and alternates will be notified on or after
September 27, 1999.
6.Responsibility:
Red Hat is not responsible for entries not received by Red Hat
by September
27, 1999,
or for any lost, late, misdirected, illegible, incomplete or
damaged entries.
Red Hat is not responsible for any unsuccessful email
transmission(s) from the
prize winner claiming the prize. This contest is void where
prohibited by law
or subject to registration requirements or restrictions and is
subject to all
international, federal, state and local taxes and regulations.
No purchase
necessary. Any and all applicable taxes and fees are the sole
responsibility
of contest prize winners.
