Just over 10 days ago Mark Egan mailed webmaster at domain linux.ie saying Scope
were planning a "Linux seminar/conference/event in the Autumn".
Owen Kelly replied shortly afterwards pointing out that LAID was going
to happen in Cork in November, Mark then replied that he didn't know
about it and suggested they work with us in organising the event.
Mark, or someone at Scope, got in touch with Owen and told him they have
quite a large budget to devote to a Linux event and the current idea is
to hold some big massive event in Dublin sometime before the end of the
year. Obviously this disrupts any plans for LAID in Cork.
Mark included at the end of his message:
"PS Our colleagues in IDG US recently organised Linux World Expo
http://www.linuxworldexpo.com/ ."
So I guess they know what they're doing when it comes to organishing
stuff like this.
The above is just about all I know really. I'm posting this in an effort
to start a discussion since they "would be pleased if the ILUG got
involved." (paraphrased from first email when Mark didn't know about
LAID)
I guess it makes sense to let outsiders organise and handle the
logistics of such an event. They get paid for it! This also seems like a
show that would be a hell of a lot bigger than LAID/Cork would ever have
been.
Donncha.
