have you looked at donald becker's website? (it's in the source, docs, and
possibly the log message at activation)
what does ifconfig report (it has an errors line for bad packets and
sometimes this indicates bad card/setup/irqs/etc)?
do the logs (/var/log/messages) have anything of interest to report
(error messages from the driver)?
