Depends... X supports it under Linux (not under FreeBSD though). You need to
change
the mouse type to IMPS/2 (instead of PS/2) (if it's a MS one), and add
buttons 5
ZAxisMapping 4 5
(IIRC) to the XF86Config. Then depending on the distro (Mandrake does it by
default), you need to
add to the Xdefaults for each application so that it maps 4 and 5 to
whatever you want. Beware, Netscrape by default considers Num Lock to be a
modifier, and thus by default doesn't work with NumLock on (check the
archives for the solution to this!)
