on redhat in /etc/pam.d/login add a # in front of this line
auth required /lib/security/pam_securetty.so

that'll open telnet wide, dunno about ftp.

info pages? it's a weird gnu thing. i hate info pages. despise them.
i like the gpl, i think stallman's ok in that quirky cs geek kinda way,
and overall i like gnu. but info pages? ugh.

i consider those messages to be salt in an already annoying wound.
