It's happened me once, on RH6.0. I have now partially upgraded
to Mandrake 6.1, but haven't added the KDE stuff yet.

Anyway, what happened me, was that I simply didn't have enough
diskspace during install. That's one weak point about the
installer. Check your free space. If this doesn't seem to be
the problem, rpm --force <package> helps. Unless Mandrake is
broken. Could you boot from your CD, by the way?
