Do you actually have a Linux player for them?
The new guy in the house & I have been playing around with
DVD ripping tools, just for the heck of it, and one of the
many formats we've been touching, before washing our hands
and running screaming into the night, is asf. It's on the
level with MPEG4 (audio+video, sort of like MPEG2, the DVD
format). As far as I've figured now, the first release of
M$'s tool to create them made plain MP4s. The second and
third edition did of course create an incompatible format.
People have mentioned 1.5-2 hours of footage at DVD quality
in less than 200MB. This means lagging is *expected*. I think
we'll have to wait for another update. This is so new I had
not even heard of MP4 two weeks ago.
