I can write to them but occasionaly I do get I/O errors which may or may
not be due to the fact that this drive has had copious amounts of _very_
sugarie coffee & fag ash dropped into it :)

I haven't been bothered going out & getting DDS2 tapes as I have rakes
of the newer ones here & from what I could make out the only difference
from the tapes point of view was that DDS3 is slightly longer (plus I
gotta budget to worry about which is part of the reason I'm using linux
in the first place), Im presuming that that the drive itself would take
care of writing the correct block length so as to get the extra few GB
onto the tape.

HP's web site mightn't apply as it's a Segate Python 28849-XXX drive,
but I understand the pain of going through HP's "online presence" 2 & a
half shaggin hours to find an FM to R on installing Maintenence kits for
a 4000 series printer
