sony vaio is very very nice if you want a small laptop. dad bought one the
other week. pcworld for £1699, you can pay over a year.
4.3gb, 64mb, P5-233MMX, 1024x480 screen. and 3 mouse buttons - the only
laptop i've ever seen with a middle button. Also has a usb camera, which
/might/ work with latest 2.3 linux cpia usb and v4l2 - havn't persuaded him
to let me install linux on it yet, so don't know.
as for building a laptop - i spent yesterday trying to fix two hinote's...
never again.
