        Best one yet, I recently had to replace the bnc cable with 2
modified paper clips when the cable was proved to have a short (big
emergency of course, no spare cable). I just joined the 2 T pieces with 2
buckled paper clips (terminators were still present). I was stunned
senseless when it worked. If that's not outside spec, I don't know what is.
I suppose the there's not much noise to be picked up in 1/2 an inch.

You do need a terminator... I've heard that it's possible to get a
connection
working without terminators, but it's a matter of luck if you do, and it's
certainly outside the spec.

The terminators basically act as infinitely long wires, damping out the
signal. They need to be in place for any reliable BNC network.
