Here's a thought:

Could there be enough power left in the capacitors in the psu to blow your board
(and not in a fun way) even when the box is plugged out?

Should you maybe hit the 'on' button to bleed 'em out or disconnect the power to
the mother board before attacking it with screw-drivers?
