Yeah, it currently puts the console on serial 0.

Absolutely :-)

This is purely in the interests of technical possibilities... it would be
a hell of a lot faster to hang an IDE cable out the front, boot off rh6.1,
and upgrade in 10 mins.

But it's the *principle* dammit : once you got the hang of it, you could
do a full OS upgrade from a different continent. Let's see you do that
with Windows :-)
