Just to drive you demented I compiled it on a stock redhat 6.0 machine
with no special bits at all, and it works grand. No errors no flaws etc.

gcc was dropped in favour of egcs because its really the next gcc in beta,
and is as good or slightly better for c, and is incredibly better for c++.
It implements a load more of c++ than the last stable gcc.
