Sorted !!!

I found this post on comp.os.Linux.networking
 

If your using SuSE 6.2, as root execute the command
                     
                    su - -c "mknod /usr/local/ftp/dev/null c 1 3 -m 666"
                     
                    They forgot chroot for /dev/null.

Everything is working fine now.
