i heard/read sunray described as a "network graphics" device.
(wild speculation)
could it be that the Sunray acts as a network framebuffer?
ie a hacked Xserver runs on the 'big' sun box, which treats the Sunray as a
framebuffer of sorts.. would explain the disconnected operation thing: ie
when you shutdown the SunRay the Xserver is still running on the Sun box.
